these are wonderful shots! I love them. Though he really looked pale and more vulnerable than usual in the first pics, you can see the change, that he looks healthier, but still fragil.
You are right mole_caz, his face becomes more masculine, not so soft anymore, which makes him more sexy, but somehow i regret, that his innocent look is lost a little. Nevertheless he is still beautifull.

The IPTC data claim, they ALL were taken October 7th 2003, that would be one day after his COLLECTORMANIA 4 appearance. (If so, he must have let them cut his fauxhawk for the shoot.). This is kind of hard to believe, he didn't look as thin as this at Collectormania, did he ?

However, I have one shot of this photoshoot (the one with the space / landing craft behind him) from a different source, and this one contains EXIF data. It's a pity they are NOT camera EXIF data, but only Adobe Photoshop EXIF data, which give November 16th 2003 as a date. See below :

Thanks, Bunnie! I had seen only a very few of these shots before. I agree that they seem to have been taken at different times. He didn't look at all well in those that feature the dark jacket.

But the light jacket and the blue t-shirt with the holes? I swear it looks like one of my parrots got ahold of that t-shirt to "distress" it for him. :D

I did the same thing that you did, looking at all the available data in an attempt to date the shoot. Most of them, as you say, are dated in October, but I have one thumbnail of him in the light jacket that has the following information attached in the 'properties':

Which only makes me wonder if the first number is really meant to be October 7 rather than the July 10 which is appears. And if so, why is the second number written out American fashion? It only makes it that much more confusing.

I'm relatively certain that they couldn't have been taken the day after C4, though. He looked considerably more robust for that con, plus he was clean shaven except for the sideburns and chin scruff, unlike the several days' growth that he's showing in these pics. Another clue is that I had some of these pics in my possession as of October 17, and I'm betting that the thumbnails are dated October 14 because that's either when I first grabbed them or perhaps when they were first uploaded to the internet, and it doesn't seem very likely that they could have been taken the 7th and have that be the case.

So, I guess it's still a mystery!

It's interesting how his face hasn't changed that much (at least in casual observation), and yet I can tell which scenes in TTT and ROTK are pickups by the way his face looks. His face is much more angular now, especially when he's thin like he is now.

So what if they were taken July 10th 2003, and the other date came from a mix up between the European and the American fashion to write a date ? His appendix operation was on August 6th 2003, so the photoshoot would have been one month before that. His stomach / belly pains hadn't started earlier than two weeks before his "hospitalisation", so maybe he had the infection already in his body at that time without knowing it.

If that date is true, than it would have been inbetween the "Hannah dancing" pictures and the COMIC-CON pictures, which might be possible regarding the length of his beard and of his hair.

But I guess you are right, this mystery probably will remain unsolved forever !

I could be wrong, but I am fairly sure these were done in a photoshoot quite soon AFTER he got out of hospital. He was really quite ill, god bless'em. He lost a ridiculous amount of weight, given how slight he was to begin with. And yet, still so beautiful it almost hurts to look at him.

That would make sense, as well. As his operation was Aug. 6, these could have been taken shortly thereafter, before he was feeling quite himself. I only know for certain that the pics hit the internet in mid-October, and the first thing I thought about them (well, besides *squee!*) was that they had to have been taken when he was not feeling well.

Creepy as it may sound, am I the only one who want to hear the whole story of this situation? I've gleaned some things from random, int'l reports and put together other stuff, e.g., he was feeling poorly for months before, including the MTV Movie Awards. The really scary part is, the appendix burst literally days after he'd flown back from Australia or thereabouts. If that puppy had burst 30,000 ft. up, he'd be a goner. And that he lost almost 25 lbs, which is ridiculous, given that he only weighed about 140, tops, to begin with. I think if all the facts ever come out, we'll be stunned at how close we came to losing dear Frodo.

I don't know or remember many details, but I do remember him saying that he felt ill for quite some time (I don't know about months... is that even possible?), but he has a really high tolerance for pain, so he pushed it aside. And then, suddenly, he was on the floor in pain and literally crying.

I think his weight after the loss was not that different from what it is now, but he's so much healthier, now! People say he looks to thin, and that may be so, but there's no mistaking it for the sort of wasting-away thinness brought on by illness.

I've often thought about how close he came to dying. And then there was the morning of 9/11, when he was due to fly out of NYC... :/

You are not the only one who wants to know more about this story. I read in several facts summary about him suffered of appendix, but was curious about details. So i started google about this fact, but never get to know more. So your report here gives me a better view. I've never known that he was so close to death. Poor Lij... Did he felt on the floor in pain? Was he on the way to somewhere or had he attended an event or sth like that? Really scary! And most of all, at that time i didn't paid much attention to Lij as i do now. So when he were really gone then, i even didn't notice!!! That would be really sad... Like Johnathan Brandis died several years ago, and i just noticed that through a small report in a small newspaper.. though in Lij's case there would be a much bigger tumult... I'm soo glad he is fine.

He is rather thin now, but not like a skeleton though. And he looks healthy.

When you step back and consider, as every right-thinking admirer of The One Lad will do occasionally, he's gone through quite a few lives: 9/11, where he literally was on the flight that took off right before the doomed plane [same airline, same departing airport], the appendix that could have burst nowhere near a doctor, and I recall him talking about being broadsided and his car rolling appx. 2002, where he just walked away from it. Someone's watching over Elijah, I'm convinced of it - he's touched by God (or Eru or whatever there is out there).

I agree, he looks toned and fit thin now. And so bloody beautiful. According to the newspaper reports we got here, Elijah was at his mom's house in Santa Monica when he just doubled over. His mom (god bless her) scooped him up and threw him in the car and got him to the hospital with little time to spare. How horrifying for her...he's all grown up but you know he's still her baby.

Yeah, for every caring mother her children will always be her little children. What a luck to be at that time in his mother's house. What would be happen if he were somewhere else with noone caring!
