New Way to Save YouTube videos

I'm hoping this qualifies as a "tutorial" under the rules!
Thanks to a friend, I've just discovered that the latest version of CinemaForge released 7 November allows you to download YouTube clips or any online clips by the looks of it and convert them to the format of your choice.
You can download the free software here:
http://www.download.com/CinemaForge/3000-2169-10373646.html
It's fairly easy to use once you get used to it, but if anyone needs some assistance feel free to post a comment here.
CinemaForge is great because you can convert existing media files into other formats. I've used it for a while now to do just that and passed on the link to a friend recently. I was surprised when she told me she was using it to download and convert YouTube clips and realised that she had a more updated version.
So hopefully this will help us all get YouTube clips more easily.

Moderator entry - Using LJ-cuts

A gentle reminder to members who post entries in this community...
Please remember to LJ-cut the following items:
The simplest cut is:
<lj-cut> content here </lj-cut>
which results in a tag that says, "Read more..."
If you'd like different text on your cut tag, use this one:
<lj-cut text="blue-eyed dork inside"> content here </lj-cut>
to get this:
( blue-eyed dork inside )
Please remember to LJ-cut the following items:
- Large-ish photos. I have suggested a 400 pixel wide/40 K limit in the rules, but it's really more of a guideline. Please indicate the photo's subject matter on the cut tag or entry title.
- Multiple images, even if they're small. Outside the cut (in the tag, the title, or in the entry itself), please give a brief description of the picspam, e.g. Elijah at various premieres, with Robin Williams, Dominic, and Pam
- Embedded videos. These can really be difficult for people with slower connections, so please keep them off their friends pages!
- Long entries or SPOILERS (which should always be marked, even when inside a cut). Please be considerate of your fellow fans.

After much delay, I've put together a list of my links to various places for photos out there. This is not a definitive list, of course; it's just the ones that I've found or been pointed toward. Some of them I use regularly, others not so much. Some are simple to use and offer a lot, others won't let you search and/or won't give you anything but thumbnails.
Rather than risk trackbacks by posting the links here, I've put them all over at del.icio.us so that you can find them all in one place and either save them yourself, or use them directly from my bookmarks. I've attempted to tag them and add notes here and there to make them as useful as possible.
( Links, with explanations )
And, as always, let me know if I've forgotten anything or if you have any questions!

Searching Blog Entries
Oct. 30th, 2006 03:08 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
Just a quickie, because I'm short on time today, but I've been meaning to post something informational for the last few days. This will have to do for now.
( Blog search engines )
A WARNING for this and all other types of searching: "Having your finger on the pulse" can have its consequences. It doesn't pay to be spoiler shy if you're going to dig down deep. Bobby, Happy Feet, Paris Je T'aime and even Day Zero hold very few surprises for me, because I've come across so many (and sometimes HUGE) spoilers in the form of both images and text.

saving right-click-disabled pics
Oct. 23rd, 2006 12:09 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
I posted this in the comments of another entry but thought I'd make a separate entry here for those that don't check back.
If you use Firefox you can download extensions that will allow you to circumvent the right-click-disabled feature on sites like IMDB.
( how to do it )
The point of this is that now I can save pics from IMDB. If anyone doesnt use Firefox or doesnt want to install extensions, let me know which pics you want and I'll grab them for you.
ETA: the Image Toolbar extension gives you the similar little icons you get on IE when you hover over a pic so you can save it easily (without having to right click), very cool!

One of the ways you can cut down on your searching time is to put the internet to work for you. This way, you can have the news come to you, rather than spending all your time going from website to website in search of it.
