For people who couldn't watch the video I posted earlier, [livejournal.com profile] thenaugmerear left a comment explaining how to watch the video using a proxy server. If you have Internet Explorer (or can figure out how to do it in another browser), you might want to give it a try! Good luck!

(And, no -- no download available, yet.)

EDIT: Or, you may be able to watch it here. Thanks for that link, [livejournal.com profile] 27kaye!

I'm hoping this qualifies as a "tutorial" under the rules!

Thanks to a friend, I've just discovered that the latest version of CinemaForge released 7 November allows you to download YouTube clips or any online clips by the looks of it and convert them to the format of your choice.

You can download the free software here:

http://www.download.com/CinemaForge/3000-2169-10373646.html

It's fairly easy to use once you get used to it, but if anyone needs some assistance feel free to post a comment here.

CinemaForge is great because you can convert existing media files into other formats. I've used it for a while now to do just that and passed on the link to a friend recently. I was surprised when she told me she was using it to download and convert YouTube clips and realised that she had a more updated version.

So hopefully this will help us all get YouTube clips more easily.

Recently my VLC player inexplicably stopped being able to play flv files.

I started looking around at all the menus to see if I find out how to rectify this and under FILE - WIZARD, I discovered an option called "Transcode - Save to File" which according to the "More Info" menu next to it allows you to save streaming videos.

I haven't yet experimented to see how or if this actually works but I thought I would pass on this bit of info in case it might be a way more of us can contribute to snagging streaming videos when they come up.

If anyone has more information on this please add your comments.

AND if anyone knows why my VLC player has suddenly decided to stop playing flv files I'd also love to know! (No real panic though because I already have the FLV player. I justed wanted to use VLC to do a screen cap.)

You can find downloads for the VLC player here:

After much delay, I've put together a list of my links to various places for photos out there. This is not a definitive list, of course; it's just the ones that I've found or been pointed toward. Some of them I use regularly, others not so much. Some are simple to use and offer a lot, others won't let you search and/or won't give you anything but thumbnails.

Rather than risk trackbacks by posting the links here, I've put them all over at del.icio.us so that you can find them all in one place and either save them yourself, or use them directly from my bookmarks. I've attempted to tag them and add notes here and there to make them as useful as possible.

Links, with explanations )

And, as always, let me know if I've forgotten anything or if you have any questions!

Music mags

This last entry from [livejournal.com profile] not_alone reminded me of an entry that I've been meaning to post but kept forgetting. So, this is it. :)

Now that Elijah is officially in the music business, there is a good chance that he will be turning up in music magazines. I'm not much of a magazine person myself, but I'll occasionally browse through the entertainment and music section in the off chance that there is something there. Just before the release of ROTK I stumbled across an article/interview in "Filter" magazine, which not only gave me a scoop online but turned me on to a new band (South).

So, if you find yourself near a magazine stand, these are some likely mags to peruse (feel free to add your own titles in comments and I'll edit them in):

Filter
AP (Alternative Press)
URB
The Big Takeover
Under the Radar
Paste
Q
Magnet
NME
Mojo
Blender
And, of course, Spin and RollingStone, with Spin being the more likely of the two, I think, though both have done articles on him before.

As the Apples' "New Magnetic Wonder" is being released in early February, it's not to early to start looking now. Happy hunting!

Please don't tell me that the 2175 x 3250 pixel version of the following picture was already known :

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/Kariel/Elijah/20060927HappyFeet01byMilesAronowitz.jpg

I found it at http://www.celebritywonder.com , which I can recommend for medium resolution (about 400 x 600 pixels) Wireimage and Retna pictures of Elijah (including Happy Feet premiere pictures) http://www.celebritywonder.com/picture/Elijah_Wood/ , movie pictures http://www.celebritywonder.com/movie-publication/Elijah_Wood/ (which is the section I found the picture above in) , and posters http://www.celebritywonder.com/poster/Elijah_Wood.html .

However, stay away from the wallpapers and screensavers, as these will try to install a programme on your computer first, which will always try to determine the site where you download your music from (or that's how I understood it).

I think I can name the site here, as it seems downloading pictures from that site might be kind of legal. If you object to that point of view, I will edit this entry and remove the source links.

Love,

- Karin.

Just a quickie, because I'm short on time today, but I've been meaning to post something informational for the last few days. This will have to do for now.

Blog search engines )

A WARNING for this and all other types of searching: "Having your finger on the pulse" can have its consequences. It doesn't pay to be spoiler shy if you're going to dig down deep. Bobby, Happy Feet, Paris Je T'aime and even Day Zero hold very few surprises for me, because I've come across so many (and sometimes HUGE) spoilers in the form of both images and text.
