Hi there,
I've been among the first beta testers to have my pics transferred from the old Livejournal Scrapbook to the new one. Having checked a few of my old entries here, from 2010, I see that about half of the pics are still there, redirecting correctly to their new destinations. But the other half are broken links. While it isn't easy to locate a single pic in one of my new albums ( I have about 1000 pics each in every single one of my 9 Elijah Wood albums ), it will be relatively easy to locate them on my own harddisk.
If you are interested in downloading a certain pic from one of my old entries, and are encountering only a broken link, please drop me a line via private Livejournal message, and I will re-upload the pic for you. Please be sure to include in your message both the link to the entry - - - for example http://elijah-finds.livejournal.com/1060152.html - - - AND the name I attributed to the pic you are requesting - - - for example 2010 01 06 - 20010 Apples In Stereo 'Dance Floor' by Adam Cantor found by padabee = mata090680 - - - .
Both of these informations, please, because I will fix the pic by editing the old entry as well, so the same pic won't be requested several times.
In most of the cases, my pics on my harddisk will still be named the same. In only a few cases, I will have changed the number attributed to the pic, because the series of pics belonging to a certain event had grown considerably larger since attributing the original name. And only in a very few, select cases, I will have changed the date attributed to the pic, because of new informations about the date of origin having surfaced in the meantime.
Sorry for causing you any inconveniences due to my early transfer.
Love,
- Karin.

Date: 2012-04-30 06:50 am (UTC)All entries up to mid-2009 should be fine, as photos up to 1 MB are hosted by Photobucket, and photos larger than 1 MB by MediaFire.
At that point in time, my Photobucket account, according to the rules that had been valid then, was ' full ', so I had to look for another alternative.
Nothing in the internet ( except maybe for Always and Forever ) is permanent, especially not photos hosted on a free online storage space. If you will have a look among older entries of
Regarding my own post-2009 photos : Half of them are still here, and as for the other half - well, my offer still stands.
Alternatively, you may browse through my albums ( which, unfortunately, after the transfer, are not even in the order I uploaded the pictures in, but totally random )
http://karin-woywod.livejournal.com/pics/catalog
There have been many examples in the past ( - remember Bagendinn ? ) that taught me that none of the online Elijah photo collections can be taken for granted, not even www.elijahfan.com or A&F !
Love,
- Karin.

Date: 2012-04-30 07:58 pm (UTC)2) Does LJ have a way of going back to the old Scrapbook for you? Since I assume they still have both of the photo storage systems running side-by-side, couldn't they transfer you back? Part of being a beta tester should be that LJ would and should fix the problems they discover while doing the testing.
3) I'm not sure how I would even know how to ask for all the pictures that I never saved. So, this all just makes me want to cry.
4) You're right, I should have saved them along the way. I have several good excuses of why I didn't, if you'd like to hear them. lol.
5) Do you know if there's any easy way to download the photos that you currently have in your scrapbook? The thought of going picture by picture horrifies me. :-)

Date: 2012-04-30 09:09 pm (UTC)1) I have a free Photobucket account, in which (at the time) you were only allowed to store 500 MB of pictures. These limits / rules have since then been abandoned. So I could use Photobucket once again. (However, they still reduce any pictures above 1 MB to a smaller size, so it would only be feasible for pictures under 1 MB). Photobucket never was any fun to use when you had more than 5 pictures in an entry, because you had to write down all the links and their thumbnails' links on your own. You know how big my picspams can get.
The tied-to-a-permanent-account Scrapbook space of 15 GB was one of the reasons why I bought a permanent LJ account. I don't feel like paying for another storage space.
2) No. They are NOT running both photo storage systems side-by-side. As soon as you have transferred all pictures, your old Scrapbook has ceased to exist and is not accessible any more.
The beta testing only concerned using the new storage system before its time (uploading and posting pics). The beta phase is as good as done. The general Livejournal (and Scrapbook) user will have their photos transferred soon, and that's it.
3) The pictures are not lost, they are just not linked with their new locations any more. Unfortunately, it is very hard to find them in the new Scrapbook albums.
Not every Elijah fan is interested in all the pictures I am posting here. They pick their choice and download only selected items from the entries in
4) I know how you feel. How often do I come too late, and the pic or the online pic collection I was aiming for is already gone ?
More to come, I just want to post this part of my reply before I loose it . . .

Date: 2012-04-30 09:41 pm (UTC)5) Seriously, you wouldn't want the 10000+ pictures currently in my new Scrapbook. Sometimes, I find larger versions of a certain pic, and in an early album "Elijah 01", you might find the small or watermarked version, and in a later album "Elijah 09" (or at a later stage in the same album), you might find the Hi-Res or unwatermarked version.
The new Scrapbook has no way to offer downloading of whole albums anyway.
Of course there might be a way to create a zip file of a folder on my harddisk (for instance, of the folder "2009 Elijah Wood"), and to upload it to MediaFire, but once again, you wouldn't want the contents of a whole folder - it is full of repetitions and pictures YOU wouldn't want to collect, even though I wanted to include it in MY collection.
6.) No collection was built in a day. Just start downloading NOW what pleases you. If you are curious, you can browse the older entries in

Date: 2012-04-30 10:33 pm (UTC)LOL!! And i don't blame you. I've never used scrapbook ( although i find that pictures i've posted are archived there.. when did that happen?) so it doesn't really apply to me, though i think some others are already experiencing problems. It's never easy when change is taking place, even when it's suppose to be for the better. Hopefully it will all work out in the end.
