Filming of The Oxford Murders, directed by Alex de la Iglesia , will take place at various locations across the city including the Sheldonian Theatre and the Radcliffe Camera in March. - March, eh? I guess we knew it would be so, and of course it's a great opportunity for him, but somehow it still hurts a little. Oh well - I need to go see him filming if I can't see him at Orc!

With filming starting 22nd of January for 9 weeks (which is 100% confirmed), that takes it all through March even if there aren't any delays. I think it has to be doubtful that he'll make it to either ORC or SXSW even if he really wants to get there. I know there is possibly a little second unit work that will need to be done but other than that he has to be in almost the entire thing. He may be trying to build in a long weekend or two or perhaps a week off but this is not a big budget film and if they get any delays at all (and they'll get delays trying to film in February/March in the UK), those will have to go. Even if he does manage it, it will a hideous amount of flying on top of what presumably will be a very demanding filming schedule. I would be very surprised if he makes it to one of the events, staggered if he makes it to two.

Or maybe I'm just being pessimistic. On the otherhand, presumably they are doing the studio stuff first (to minimise the amount of time they hire the studio) and then doing the location work. I think they are scheduled for a couple of weeks at Oxford (?). It sounds like that is happening last (so last 2 weeks in March), so maybe there might just be some scope for a small break in between the studio and location stuff. It would be at about the right time. I guess we'll find out.

I was thinking mainly from a location point of view (e.g. shooting all the scenes for one location on 1 or 2 days) would mean he's always there. It depends how they shoot it. There is one important location scene that he's emphatically not in in the book and which might be quite laborious to shoot (it's got to be either the biggest stunt scene in the film or a complicated art direction setup depending how they choose to do it). That could all take a few days to shoot, so who knows.

Don't know the Sheldonian but I think I know where the Radcliffe camera is. My sister will so I will ask her. If he's not coming to Oxford until March then it looks like the bulk of filming for February is in London.

As far as Elijah's eyes are concerned, they are what help to define his acting skill and all the while he uses them to this advantage, he will be snapped up for films that require this style of acting. I'm sure he is well aware of this and as we know he is very choosy about what film roles he takes, I wouldn't worry too much. After all, few actors can say with no words what he can say in volumes with his eyes. It's a rare gift.

Elijah and the Radcliffe Camera, such a wonderful combination!

Since nobody but students are allowed in, I can't wait to see if the interior is just as beautiful as the exterior!:

One thing though: I do hope that this won't stop him from attending ORC.
I know what it is to have booked for a convention and finding out he won't be there (twice!)...

It is beautiful, isn't it? Mmm, the beauty of Elijah with the beauty of the building should make
a heady combination!!

And like you I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the ORC people!

What a gorgeous building. Why are only students allowed inside? Is it because it's part of the Bodleian Library?

Is it because it's part of the Bodleian Library?

Exactly! Now the main building is- partially- open for visitors; and it's gorgeous!
I have to admit I've fallen in love with it because of the first Harry Potter movie,
and I have taken a guided tour there twice, and wouldn't mind doing that another time, heh.

Hmmmm, this article lists him as an 'argentine' student while other articles have him as an American student. I wonder how they'll play it.

Yes, I wondered about that, too. I figured they would probably change the nationality of the student for the film.

Are there any Tolkien sites to visit in Oxford? If so, I wonder if Elijah would be interested in seeing them.

Not sure but there are several in Birmingham....... Sarehole Mill was Tolkien's inspiration for The Shire.

When I went to Oxford two years ago me and a friend went to the tourist information and asked about some Tolkien sites in Oxford and they gave us two sheets of locations you could visit.
I saw several of the houses Tolkien used to live in, I went to the Eagle and the child pub, where Tolkien used to meet with C.S. Lewis and where there are pics and a plague remembering them, I visited the university he studied at and the one he taught at(they both have busts of him) and you can go and visit his grave with the favourite Beren and Luthien inscription. Unfortunately, I had not enough time to see that as well...
So there are enough Tolkien sites to visit in Oxford.
I can't believe that I am going to Oxford the first week of April and they finish shooting the last week of March:(

The book has scenes set actually in the Eagle and Child pub. Although, since any pub would do they may not actually use it.

I was in Oxford in '88 and '96 long before I discovered LOTR and Tolkien. A shame I missed seeing all that stuff. I've since seen the photos of Tolkien and his wife's graves and read his letters. I would love to go back and visit all those places!

Mmm, there are several colleges, like Merton and Exeter, and then of course there is the famous pub where the prof used to hang out/ erm had discussions
with, amongst others, C.S. Lewis. Its official name is The Eagle and Child, but it's more affectionately known as The Bird and the Baby:

Oxford is just beautiful, and I can just imagine Elijah having a wonderful time there-
and how I would love to show him all the sights- would even take him for a punt on the river...

And if you did take him for that punt, maybe you could accidentally make sure his clothes got all wet and then you'd have to take him someplace warm so he could strip 'em all off and warm himself by your fire! ;)
