3:30 PM - Went to the Bust party to meet some journalists, check our our venue for our showcase later that evening and caught Elijah Wood (the hobbit guy) spin. He sucked for the part that I heard him. He stood on stage. No elaborate equipment. Like, seriously an ipod and a mixer. Played with his ipod, played old songs that didn't really sound any different and didn't even look like he wanted to be there.

Well, let's see... I've heard: he hardly ever even looked up; all he was using was his Ipod (which is what he does), and he was playing a lot of oldies (soul, I guess, like James Brown). And we know how serious he looks when he's DJing, so... Yeah. She was watching him -- just a different perspective!

I tried to go to that event, but could not find parking anywhere. Doesn't sound like I missed much, although I would have been happy to take pix of Elijah standing on a stage with his iPod. ;-)

Well...Elijah recently said he isn't a shy person - quiet in some circumstances but not shy. I beg to differ - yes he is quiet but I have seen him on a few occassions now and he does come over as quite shy, not painfully but I don't think he's the most outgoing guy. He is pleasant and well mannered but he was overshadowed with the likes of Sean or Dom. He sometimes doesn't know what to say and doesn't say much. He giggles but is not the joker, yes, I'd say he comes over as shyish. I can imagine him not interacting too much up there. But his personality is one of the reasons I love him - not oversure and cocky like some actors his age probably have the right to be. I love him just as.

Yeah, and when he's DJing, he's all about the music, not making an impression with himself. So if this person was looking for the DJ to be a "show", she would have been disappointed. But to me, he's just right. :-)

*nudges in* I think you're right. The company of ebullient people like Dom and Billy brought him out of his shell and he was much more effusive in interviews of that period. He has a natural tendency to want to be joyous and outgoing but needs sympathetic personalities around him to bring that out. I like his shy, polite side too. He's adorable whatever!

You can't please all the people all the time.

I think they really should make that clear in the advertising. To most people DJs doing sets means more than that.

All that beauty and all that passion for music. What's not to love?

Obviously not an Elijah fan then..
I just can't imagine him being one of those dj's that chat all the time...he's much too self contained for that. It would maybe be different if he had someone else there with him... but i don't think for a minute that he didn't want to be there. He was there to play music, and that's what he did...even if he didn't have any fancy equipment. I would so love to have been there!

I've read somewhere else that Elijah was looking very serious while DJing, he was probably just concentrating on the music and not wanting to grab the attention. But I don't think it's right to say that he didn't want to be there!

I know its inconceivable that someone not love him....but some people are just shallow.

To be honest, I think it's quite believable that many people don't love him;)

And why do you think this person is shallow? For saying that she didn't like his music? Well, I didn't like what I heard in those youtube-clips either...Because she was disappointed that he just DJ'ed with his Ipod? Well, I remember that it was Lij himself who said that DJ purists would probably hate him for DJing with his Ipod...

I don't see anything shallow in her entry, she just posted her opinion, maybe in strong words but since it's her blog, why not?

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] moffel83 - to people not interested in Elijah, experiencing him DJ-ing is probably not that great, compared to "professional" DJs - and I remember that Elijah quote as well ! :o)

Having said that, I loved the music from one of the clips, and I wish I could loop it endlessly, especially with seeing Elijah swaying to the beat . . . ! ;o)

Love,

- Karin.

Well I know nothing about what a DJ is supposed to do but I guess Elijah doesn't do what IS normally expected i.e. put on a show. In that light I can totally understand this person's perspective. Maybe there was also a bit of an underlying feeling with this person that it was their impression he only got the gig 'cos he was a celebrity.

I should finish that thought... - hence the resentful tone of their post.

I have to try to remain balanced when someone doesn't swear undying love for Elijah. You see, he could be slouching in a corner doing jack shit and I'd still be fascinated! But I can seperate from my admiration at times and see why he may not be everyones darling. He is not the most exciting of people really, probably not the most handsome and he's probably a crap DJ as well for all I know. I can see how his high pitched voice, smallness, bug eyes etc might irritate - yeah, they are blind, ignorant and lack class but I can see where they are coming from at the end of the day.

I have people close to me who insult him constantly because they know that's the one thing that will get a reaction from me! But when all's said and done they just admit they find it hilarious, endearing and actually love me for adoring Elijah :)
