Heard this on the radio this morning.

September 30th is the 40 year anniversary of Radio 1 and there is going to be a special event called ‘Established 1967’. On the actual day they will be recreating the original schedule including an opening by Tony Blackman.

At 10 p.m. (UK time) there will be a special 2 hour programme featuring John Peel’s favourites, ‘randomly hosted by Elijah Wood’ (whatever that means).

If you want to check me out, it is on the podcast of Chris Moyles’ morning show on Radio 1 at about 8.18 a.m..

Thanks! I had an article pop into my inbox this morning that is maybe a little bit more detailed: Stars come out for Radio 1 birthday (http://media.guardian.co.uk/radio/story/0,,2162896,00.html).

Elijah's portion is called "Keeping It Peel." :) I think Moyles' jibe about "randomly hosted by" must mean that he thought it was a random choosing of someone famous with no real reasoning behind it. But we know that they couldn't have picked a better guy for that segment!

Oh, good point, Bunnie. Of course, Mr. Peel asked Elijah to host his radio show while he was on vacation (the vacation he ended up dying on), but that never happened. It's so nice to think Elijah will do it now. I do hope we get to hear it. BBC is pretty good about putting shows on their website, so perhaps we will.

Yes that's what I thought too about his agreeing to host for JP. Hope he does.

Brilliant!! I wonder if it's a live show..or do they pre-record? And does that mean he'll be coming to the UK???

Just a thought.. September 30th is very close to October 5th/6th and the DZ showing at Raindance Film Festival in London!!!

*trying very hard to keep a lid on things til i know more facts..but can't resist a small..whee!!*

That would fit nicely into his schedule, wouldn't it? At this point, with him doing another one of his famous disappearing acts, beggars can't be choosers... (maybe he's around, but he's gotten so bloody skinny preparing for Iggy that he doesn't show up on camera anymore?!!)

GB were on Jimmy Kimmel last night, and I'm pretty sure it was new. I meant to tape it but that didn't work. :-( I've been out all day since 6 a.m. (ugh!) so haven't had a chance to look it up, but I'm pretty sure JK isn't based in NY. Of course, I also don't know if Pam was performing with them, or if TOL would be there if she were, or whatever. Wish I had something actually informative here. :-)

Aha! I had a feeling. :-) I caught the first part of the show (there were palm trees on the set, I believe, so I figured it wasn't NY :-) ) and meant to set the tape for the rest, but the remote didn't work right. Yes, hoping for Youtube !

It's up on YouTube here Belle:

Apparently somewhere someone said that Elijah popped his head out and waved then hid behind the crowd again, but who knows. I certainly can't see him in this clip. It's a bit like playing Where's Wally.

Maybe "randomly hosted" means he will only host part of the two hours and someone else will host the rest of it? Anyway, it's a nice thing to look forward to.

Thanks for the info!

I got this in a Google alert..

http://www.easier.com/view/Lifestyle/Entertainment/Staying_In/article-137988.html

10pm-midnight: Keeping It Peel. A musical tribute to John Peel, hosted by Peel fan Elijah Wood.

It doesn't say anything about 'random' hosting!! Fingers crossed it means 2 WHOLE HOURS of that delicious voice!

Thanks for the lowdown -- this sounds good! Radio 1 launched in the Summer of Lurve, with the first broadcast being by Tony Heartburn Blackburn, who told the most awful jokes ... It was a meant to be a replacement for the pirate radio stations which were much more fun! :-) I think the first single they played was Flowers in the Rain by The Move (or was it Hole in my Shoe by Traffic? Kind of psychedelic/flower-power anyway).

I look forward to listening to Elijah's show! :-)

I love it whenever Elijah is on radio and indulging in his love of music. It's seems it's at these times that we hear him at his most passionate and eloquent. I do so hope someone is able to share a download of this at some stage. Thanks for sharing the info!
