The candidate they are looking for has to resemble Elijah Wood. And then they include a photo for reference from 2002 ? I hate when they are doing this in careless assembled news items. But here the person they are looking for has to resemble an actual actor, like he is looking NOW.

- Arrrgghhh !

:o(

Love,

- Karin.

You have to look like Elijah (from any year this is tricky) AND be a professional pianist?? I'd love to be a fly on the wall in THAT casting office!!

Seriously. They're going to be really lucky to find anyone. Professional (or at least expert) pianists are rare enough, but to find one who looks like Elijah's bound to be nearly impossible.

And if they Really want a double, they're going to have to find a professional pianist with nails bitten down to the point of bleeding. Good luck with that ;-) [maybe they could get some Lee Press On nails for Lij?]

This seems like a good time to observe that I'm actually anxious about that. It is really going to bug me -- like, in an OCD "I'm going to start climbing the walls in a second" kind of way -- if whoever they use to be his hand double has perfectly manicured nails. You know that scene in FotR when the hobbits are hiding under the tree root from the Black Rider, when Frodo almost puts the Ring on, and it's Kiran's hand instead of Elijah's? IT MAKES ME INSANE. It's my least favorite scene in all of LotR. It's the psychological equivalent of being slapped hard across the face; it totally throws me out of the story because my brain is shrieking "!!!!!!NOT HIS HANDS NOT HIS HANDS NOT HIS HANDS!!!!!!!"

I adore Elijah's hands. His hands were the focus of one of the first picspams I ever did on my Tumblr. I know it's odd, and that the nail-biting is potentially a sign of anxiety, but I love those bitten nails. They've always been a part of him and to me they're beautiful. I look at every picture to see whether he's stopped biting them, and he's made major changes towards that end. Lately they're quite neat. But you can still tell he bites them and has for a long time. I'm a musician, and I've never seen a professional pianist who bites his nails -- when your hands are your livelihood, you take care of them scrupulously. So I'm anticipating that the hand double is going to be a major psychological hurdle for me in this movie.

I know exactly what you mean. That LOTRs scene bugs me too. I love the bitten nails just as much as i love the gap in his teeth, and even down to the fact that he smokes. To me they make him human with frailties the same as the rest of us. They also portray the fact that he really isn't bothered about convention and the Hollywood obsession with perfection. He is what he is and it's up to you whether you accept him for that. As you say he's making great inroads in getting the nails in shape, but i'd hate to see them perfectly manicured. It just wouldn't be him.

YES! Absolutely amen to every word, Belle. If Elijah decided it was a priority in his life to stop biting his nails, or even to stop smoking, I would want to be as supportive of him as possible... but I have to admit that, in either case, I would probably have to sit down and have a bit of a cry first, honestly. They are part of who he is, and I love who he is, including his human flaws and the things he does that I don't choose for myself (which does not, in the interest of full disclosure, include smoking, because I do that sometimes).

I need to make an icon of him smoking. Tonight. It shall happen tonight.

>>but I love those bitten nails<<

Me too!! He always seems so confident and self-possessed but the nails are proof that he has his anxieties just like the rest of us.

>>when your hands are your livelihood, you take care of them scrupulously<<

Very true. My grandfather was a professional cellist and he'd never do any jobs around the house for fear of injuring his hands!!

The pressure on musicians to take care of their hands is subtle but pervasive. I was always a singer, so even though I played the piano (badly and never, EVER in public), I never thought about my hands... until I became a conductor. Knowing that my hands were suddenly the only part of me that really mattered -- with the choir and/or orchestra was depending on my hands to tell them what to do and when, and the audience, when they paid attention to me at all, noticing only what my hands were doing -- I became conscious of them quickly. Out went the garish nail polish (which I love) and the occasional nail-biting and the scraggly-looking cuticles; in came the obsession with hand lotion, lol. I'm glad to be done with conducting, if only because all that attention to the appearance of my hands was so annoying! :-p

Would it be possible to give us a synopsis of what was written at that site? We non-Spanish-speaking fans would be grateful. :>)

"PIANIST DOUBLE FOR ELIJAH WOOD FOR FILM

A major film starring Elijah Wood (Frodo in THE LORD OF THE RINGS) will be shot in Barcelona, the story of a very famous pianist while giving??? [who gives] a concert at the Chicago Theater [should be "a theater in Chicago"][. W]e need a professional pianist to double and coach the protagonist who is between 25 and 30 years old, measures between 1.65 and 1.7 [meters in height; that is, 5'4"-5'5.5"], and looks like Elijah Wood. (Photo attached for reference.) Those interested send urgently [there's probably a less literal, more graceful way to translate that] [your] full name, age, height, phone number, city where you live, and a current photo to pelicasting@gmail.com, indicating PIANIST DOUBLE FOR ELIJAH WOOD."

(Is it just my weak Spanish, native speakers, or is the grammar/punctuation in this blurb rather terrible?)

Oh, thanks so much for the translation. I really appreciate it.

And I completely agree with everyone who pointed out how ridiculous it was to use a photo of Elijah from 2002. Sheesh!

Thanks again. :>)
