There is a podcast interview available at SciFiTalk.com, and interview with Elijah about Lord of the Rings. At first I thought that it was recent, and though I've only listed to the first minute or so, I'm pretty sure that it's older because his voice sounds higher (someone had told me that the smoking was lowering his voice, but I didn't believe it at first).

Great find Bunnie!! I've just listened all the way through - the first part is from the press junket for FOTR and later it changes to the ROTK press con and his voice drops about two octaves!!

I just heard that drop, too. Though, I couldn't say for sure if it would be due to the cigarette smoking or simply his body making that transition young adult to man. He sounded quite boyish in the first part as opposed to the last.

My word his voice is so high....compared to how he sounds now. wow. I enjoy listening to Elijah now then listening to this....my word.

Hee! His voice sounds like it was either mixed a bit high or that maybe he was a tiny bit hoarse in that first part. But the change is a bit startling!

Gosh his voice was high ! However when I watch LOTR I never find his voice so high... It's weird.
Anyway I don't think it's because of the smoking. He was just changing , that's all.

I got this alert too...Makes a change to get something worthwhile for a change.
Didn't he start smoking when he was 16 while making the Faculty? This has to be recorded later than that. I think he just sounds so very young, bless him! Over 20 minutes of sheer bliss! Wonderful!

I think he may have been 17 -- I understand that he didn't actually start smoking until the premiere of The Faculty.

I know what you mean..at first i didn't think it was him at all.. but there's no mistaking that laugh!

Thanks..i didn't know he didn't start til the Prem..i thought it was during the shooting. In that interview he gave when promoting the Faculty he definately does sound chesty.. quite sexy really, even though it's NOT good for him to smoke..

I wish I could remember where I read/heard that about the smoking. It was an interview, and he said that the crazy thing was that he made it all the way through the filming and didn't start, even though he was sort of fascinated with the clove cigarettes. And then when he saw Josh again, Josh said, "Come on, you know you wanna," and he did. And that was that.

Or maybe I'm remembering a piece of fan fiction. :D But I don't think so.

It's such a pity he gave into temptation ..but i think he most probably would have started sooner or later. In my experience if you're gonna smoke, you will.. I grew up around smokers but was never interested..my sister was though, and still smokes to this day!
