Helping Iowa?

Something found in my alerts this morning.

Gov. Chet Culver wants to use some Iowa star power to launch a new advertising campaign promoting the state.

The national ad campaign envisioned by Culver would feature Iowa natives who have made a name for themselves in the entertainment and sports worlds.

Those who might fit the bill, he said, include golf pro Zach Johnson, this year's Masters tournament winner, and Hollywood actors Elijah Wood, Ashton Kutcher and Tom Arnold.

Personally, I'd love to see him help out. I was in Des Moines last year, and it's a great city.

I think he'll say option 3, but the reality is he's never been back, so why now?

i'm with you, but a little torn. i'd like to think he'd consider it, but why would he go back?

I found this to be a bit silly, when I read it. They're hoping to enlist the help of an actor who left the state at the age of 8 and hasn't been back for years and years?

OTOH, maybe I'm wrong -- maybe he has very fond memories of his birth state and will be enthusiastic about helping. But I can only see him doing it if he's got nothing else to do at the time.

No, bunnie, I agree. I mean, he's had a spaces of time where he could go back, and apparently he hasn't. I think it's for his own personal reasons (understandably), but I still don't think using him as representation is wise.

Hasn't he mentioned something about going back to visit? I remember it from somewhere..Hmmm. It'd be good to see him do this, something different. If he's not doing anything. :-D

Didn't i read that he still has relatives there? His grandmother??? I seem to remember something about him going to church with her last Christmas, but of course that's not to say it was true!
I'd like to think he'd help out, but i can only see him doing it if he has the time!

I am with you in that I have read blog reports of people mentioning him being back to visit and both times it was around the Christmas holidays. I am sure he still has a grandmother and probably a bunch of other relatives. Even if he doesn't get along with his dad, he might have aunts, uncles, cousins that he spends time with once a year.

And he always says when questioned, that he had an amazing childhood there.. so maybe he will help..IF he has the time!

I would like to think he would help out - but it does seem like #3 would be more likely. I think I have read that he talks fondly of Iowa in interviews but since he doesn't go back there kind of hard to think of him doing this.

In face it could backfire - I could just see lots of nasty blogs about "it it's so good how come you never go there".

Interesting though!!
