These are great pictures!!! I will say, that I noticed that Elijah is definitly a strong character. He is always walking ahead or very strongly forward. The confidence is amazing in him. He still goes forward like he is by himself...even though we know Pam is with him and he snogs and gropes her on occassion..but in general he look "to himself".
Ooh yeah - that confident stride is really sexy don't you think? It's that thing where he's like this short wee little dude, but he still walks like he's 7 foot tall! Brrrr - makes me shiver - and sweat a little too! ;)
My hubbie was just the same when we were younger and he's very strong-willed and confident. I think it's a man thing. Elijah is purposeful in al he does and it's there to see in those pics too.
You know : everything I discover, will immediately be shared with the community. I've been in this fandom only for 13 months, so in the beginning, I was very dependent on other people doing the same for me !
In fact, I've still got an inferiority complex when communicating with those people I look up to, like with bunniewabbit (for her news and pictures research), celebrian (for her limericks), even with you, chowling, for your huge "posting history" at A&F !
Unfortunately, I don't ever write anything in my LJ, I just created it in order to post to communities such as this one (in fact, I still wouldn't have a LJ account if Bunnie hadn't "invited" me ! :-o ).
But for all it will be worth, I'll friend you back . . .
Hey! I've just discovered I've got photos in my collection taken with your very own camera of you, your husband and Elijah from the "After Premiere Party" of "Everything Is Illuminated", September 15th 2005 ! ! ! - That is, if I am not mistaken about the old nick-name you used for yourself . . .
That night must have been incredible ! *envy*
Berlin ist gegrüßt und sagt, es erinnert sich an Dich - und : "Du hast noch einen Koffer in Berlin . . ." ;o)
I've only been in this fandom for 13 months. As a newcomer, too long have I only read and taken what other people have offered to share - it's about time to try and give something back in exchange !
I still remember YOUR nice reports of the London Film & Comic Con, for instance !
Well, you've certainly made your presence known in the fandom and we've all benefitted from your decision to "give something back"!
I see you live in Berlin - I must say your English is excellent :) I'm always amazed at LJ friends whose first language isn't English, but who are so fluent in our sometimes-eccentric tongue!
Thanks for your comment about my LFCC reports. If you are interested I went with my husband and son to New Zealand in 2005 and did the Red Carpet Tour of the LOTR film locations. On our return we posted a report with pictures which you might like to have at look at even if only to see my husband's beautiful photos!
You should be able to access it by going to my archive and back to September 2005 which was when we started posting it. Btw, we got to stay in Elijah's room at the Powderhorn Chateau and there are pics of that ;D
Best wishes to you too. I hope the recent storms haven't affected you too much. We've heard on the news that Germany has been hit badly.
Well, you've certainly made your presence known in the fandom
Well, I contributed a little to A&F in the beginning of these 13 months . . . And I may be unusual in that I am about the only one who uses her real name as a nickname, so maybe that is what sticks with people . . .
New Zealand - I will most certainly check out your pages about your journey "there and back again" !
I see you live in Berlin - I must say your English is excellent :) I'm always amazed at LJ friends whose first language isn't English, but who are so fluent in our sometimes-eccentric tongue!
In my spare time, I am constantly in touch with the English language. I used to read British music magazines on a weekly / monthly base, I still like reading books in the original English language, like watching films / DVDs in the original English language (sometimes with English subtitles on, if I have some trouble understanding dialects ar ancient language - - - at the beginning, I had to use the English subtitles watching my Lord Of The Rings DVDs !!!). I've got a few friends around the globe, with whom I keep in touch using the English language. So I am kind of practicing my English language "skills" a lot.
Despite all this, however, I've still got major insecurities regarding prepositions (is it "at" or "on" or "in" ?) and tenses.
And let's not forget I was ridiculed here at elijah_finds once for calling New Orleans Mardi Gras beads "colourful chains" instead ;o) (memory for embarrassments like an elephant, I am afraid)
So, my English could be better, but I am quite content, thank you !
Compared to German, the structure of English is easier (much less different endings and articles - German "die" = "the", German "der" = "the", German "das" = "the"), but the pronunciation of English is less logical (words that are written identically in the second word-half don't necessarily rhyme in English and a plethora of words, though using a totally different spelling, may sound the same in English).
I once read a sign in a UK grocery store saying "lettuce". Later that day I tried to tell my landlady of the bed & breakfast I was staying in, that I had bought myself a little "lettuce" - and I pronounced the end of the word similar to "juice" - no wonder she didn't understand a word I said. I was very surprised to learn from her that the word in question was in fact pronounced like "lattice" - so that's where the difficulties lie for a foreigner ;o) :oD LOL!
I'm afraid I don't go to A&F very much as I don't seem to have the time, but it's been a pleasure to encounter you here in the elijah_finds community :)
Well, your English skills are considerable and I'm pleased that you are able to practise them with your friends around the globe. I too use my own name as I don't have to try and disguise my identity for any reason. I don't write fanfics or produce manips or anything like that so I can be myself in LJ-land. The only thing I don't use is my surname.
I can understand your insecurities re prepositions. If there are any hard and fast rules I'm not aware of them. I just use what "feels" right at the time. As for German, it's not a language I've ever studied so your English is vastly superior to my German ;)
I work in a school with young children and they can have similar problems with English words that look but don't sound the same or with those that don't look the same but which do rhyme. Sometimes English can be completely illogical!
Anyway, keep up the good work, you're doing fine :D
I echo all that Jane has said Karin and I do know you from A&F although I never post there, only browse.
I taught special needs for thirteen years after giving up full time classroom teaching and trying to help struggling children to understand the complexities of English grammar and spelling was no easy task!! I'm very impressed with your English and am afraid to say, that my knowledge of German is limited to a few basic words and phrases!
Enjoy Jane's NZ report, its excellent and if you fancy having a look at LOTR location sites, then you are more than welcome to have a browse through the Molehill at my NZ travels. I will friend you if you would like to as the posts are locked.
A few days ago, on my radio, there was an "expert" to give advice about how to learn a second language better. Among other things he said was that it was important to learn whole expressions as opposed to single words. He gave as an example that almost every German with the basest skills in the English tongue would be able to tell you that the German "Nase" is translated with "nose". However, if you ask them to translate "Putz Dir die Nase !", most would pull a blank facial expression before eventually opting for the literal translation of "Clean your nose !" instead of giving the correct translation of "Blow your nose !" ! He is totally right, of course ! Only from reading everyday language used by "common people" like you and me (and in the beginning with the help of books about proverbs and slang expressions) I was able to assemble a vocabulary of expressions in the right context (and in the right tenses). Not words, but larger chunks of words stringed together up to whole sentences !
The problem with teaching English to German children however (at least I think that was what went wrong in my time), is that most teachers prefer to offer translations, but not teach enough about how often a certain expression or tense is really used or about its importance.
For instance, if expressing something that is happening right now, a German, in their own language, would use a simple present tense (because they don't have any alternative) - so the teachers teach them that "ich tanze" is translated as "I dance", whereas in 99% of the occasions, it should be translated by "I am dancing" ! It's so that the pupils are aware that there is another present tense, but they don't use it.
This is something I've only learned long after my school English lessons had ended. And as I said before, tenses are still my weak point.
The "molehill" - is it more like a smial or like an actual mole-dug underground system of tunnels ? :o) Yes, I'd like to read your reports, please friend me !
( Maybe you have read elsewhere about my policy of not friending back, please don't be offended by it :o( )
Anyway, I have to leave for the "International Green Week Fair" now,
You have hit the nail on the head [another fine old English saying] with your observation about the use of phrases, tenses and everyday jargon. I think Melyanna would agree with all you have said because her English is extremely good like yours and Italian is her mother-tongue.
The 'Molehill' is just my name for my LJ. It seemed right to me to call it that as my name is Mole_caz or Moley! I'll friend you so that you can read my captioned pictures but you will have to look back a little way to find them. Just for your interest hubbie and I spent a couple of weeks in Feb 2004 visiting every LOTR location site we could find using Ian Brodie's excellent guide book! We couldn't reach them all but we did our best and I have put up my pictures.
Oh and don't worry about not friending back. I popped over to your journal yesterday to see if it was friends locked or whatever and read your 'policy'. I understand. I spend far too much time browsing but it is addictive and I have made lovely, many new friends.
I enjoyed it thoroughly (I am not sure, but there may still be a few journey days at the end of your travel I haven't read yet) (and I am currently spending every spare minute I have at the International Green Week Fair here in Berlin, so at the moment, my online time is limited)!
I really liked your descriptions and photos. I don't think I will ever make that trip down to New Zealand (too expensive, no driver's licence, no-one to accompany me on that travel, too much "nervous anticipation" regarding "unknown paths" to take), so I have to learn about New Zealand "viewing" it through other people's eyes . . .
I hear you are going back there ( "there, back and there again" ? ;o) ) in August, so all the best for that trip. Can't wait to see your pictures of it !
Hope you are enjoying the "International Green Week Fair" :) Thanks for taking the time to have a look at my NZ report.
It's not an inexpensive trip, doing the Red Carpet Tour, but thanks to my dear darling father who died in 2004 we have the money to make these trips, otherwise we wouldn't be able to afford them. He knew how much I fell in love with LOTR and NZ through the movies so I think he would have been happy for us.
The Tour is ideal for people on their own as Vic and Raewyn James who run the tours do all the bookings for you and all you have to do is turn up! There are other like-minded people on the tour with you so you are not *on your own*. We had a young woman with us in 2005 who wasn't with anyone else and she had a great time!
My feel the LUUUURRVE in those pics... not. Sorry but they look like 2 men walking down the street. Pam doesnt seem to be feminine at all. Nice looking takeaway tho
If it was at one of her show of course she was nice. I'm happy for you that you met her and it was pleasant though. Although in my own opinion and cynicism I doubt her sincerity.
I appreciate what you were trying to do here, but I think it's probably best to let these things lie. If I'm going to admonish the people who slam Pam (which I try to do, when I see it), I also have to remind the people who like her not to talk about her in glowing terms. Neutrality is the only way to avoid setting off one side or the other, I'm afraid. :/
Another one of the rules here? Is to try to be neutral about Elijah's choice of companion when you comment. This is an Elijah-love comm, not a Pamela-hate comm. Please try to keep your snide comments to yourself (or find an appropriate community to voice them), because they will not be tolerated here. Thank you.
Please have another look at the rules for this community (http://community.livejournal.com/elijah_finds/profile); if you want to continue commenting here, you will be expected to follow them.
I miss the tan one jacket,he used to wear, probally all worn out now, maybe this black jacket will take over but for some reason the tan really suited him. And don't we know have the one shoes? Hehhhee he looks very hot there, I'm glad he looks clean shaven. * blows him kisses*
