I don't know or remember many details, but I do remember him saying that he felt ill for quite some time (I don't know about months... is that even possible?), but he has a really high tolerance for pain, so he pushed it aside. And then, suddenly, he was on the floor in pain and literally crying.
I think his weight after the loss was not that different from what it is now, but he's so much healthier, now! People say he looks to thin, and that may be so, but there's no mistaking it for the sort of wasting-away thinness brought on by illness.
I've often thought about how close he came to dying. And then there was the morning of 9/11, when he was due to fly out of NYC... :/
