Part 1/4 : '[Green Street] HOOLIGANS' Call Sheets - Sheet # 06 - April 3rd 2004 (& April 4th)

This will be a sporadic series featuring scans of the four   '[ Green Street ]  Hooligans'    call-sheets I own - - - copies of.




Meet film extra    Michael Thompson   , who played a firm member in the movie  ' [ Green Street ]  Hooligans'     ( working title :    ' The Yank '    ). To introduce him, I'd like to quote from a newspaper clipping :

"MICK RUNS RINGS ROUND ELIJAH

Elijah Wood may be the Lord of the Rings but he certainly isn't the King of the Nets, according to a Keighley man.

Film extra Michael Thompson discovered the young star was a better actor than a footballer during a movie shoot.

The pair played soccer between scenes of action film  'The Yank'  last week at a London film studio.

Michael, of Braithwaite Avenue, said Elijah - who played Frodo in Lord of the Rings - was very down-to-earth.


He said:    'At lunch Elijah joined the queue with the rest of us and ate in the tent with us all. We played footie at lunch and he was rubbish, especially in goal.'    [ Karin says : LOL ! ]


Michael spent an afternoon fight training with experts including Pat Johnson, who trained Bruce Lee and Steve McQueen.

Michael has been an extra in many productions including TV series 'Casualty' and 'Emmerdale', upcoming film 'King Arthur' and current hit movie 'Shaun of the Dead'. He is currently writing a booklet for other people hoping to become extras, with advice and contact details."

As you can see from the newspaper report above, like the rest of us, Mick is not averse to a little bit of extra income. So he came up with the clever idea of making some of the mementoes he owned from the filming of    Hooligans    to money. 

In 2005, he auctioned off via   Ebay   (copies of) call sheets, (prints of) a still of the final confrontation between film characters Matt Buckner and Jeremy Van Holden (that probably was given to the cast by 'Oddlot Entertainment', the producers of the film), etc., etc., etc., often adding bonus items to the lot like (copies of) newspaper clippings or a faulty copy of a ' Hooligans ' DVD in a genuine looking paper sleeve [ I never got the DVD to work - When I managed to let it run for a few minutes  today  before it stopped my DVD player dead   ;o)   , it turned out it was a pirate copy, filmed with a video camera in a movie theatre - boo hiss !      ;o)    ]

No, no, don't get me wrong : I kind of  like  Michael, even admire him in a way - it was a win-win-situation. He got to keep his mementoes of the filming, earned some extra money, was kind of generous in compiling the lots - - - and the successful bidders (mainly Elijah fans) had a happy smile on their faces, because they had the unique chance to witness some aspects of the filming process from   WITHIN   !

So it's about time to share the informations the call sheets contain.

- What are    call sheets    ? The   Wikipedia  definition : 

"The daily call sheet is a filmmaking term for a sheet of paper issued to the cast and crew of a film production, created by an assistant director, informing them where and when they should meet for a particular day of shooting. Call sheets also include other useful information such as contact information (i.e. phone numbers of crew members and other contacts), the schedule for the day, which scenes and script pages are being shot, and the address of the shoot location."  ( a more detailed definition can be found at http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Movie_Making_Manual-Call_Sheet )

They also contain informations about which cast members are required for which scenes to be shot.

Call Sheets are in parts quite interesting, because you get a lot of informations about which scenes were made When and Where and With Whom. You also get to know how early Elijah had to be there for his scenes, how long he spent in Make Up etc.

But there is of course a lot of superfluous information, like when the cast and crew had lunch, or maps how to get to the locations etc., etc.

Which is to say that in their entirety, they can get quite boring. So just for the nerds among you or for the 'movie maniac' in all of us, without further ado, I'll present to you - the first of four call sheets I own.
