I had followed him down the street. He then started running and disappeared into the crowd.

Hehe, she makes it sound as if she's always accompanied by a private detective or something, ready to follow/stalk people at the drop of a hat! ;-D

Clearly he didn't want to be spotted & that's why he ran off & vanished into the crowds.
