I've not done one of these in a while (not a lot is happening, but Happy Feet is still in 300 theaters after more than 90 days on release and hasn't finished its run yet).

Happy Feet is currently at $193,916,000 domestically, it got $295,000 this weekend (3 day, not 4 day). It's going to be a close run thing if it is going to manage to sneak past Ice Age 2 ($195,330,621) to be number 2 animated film of last year at the Box Office. Maybe it will get enough of an Oscar boost just being shown being nominated to help it do that. My gut reaction is it will fall short (the DVD is out in a month or so). $200 million is virtually impossible.

World wide, Happy Feet is currently on $168,700,000, giving a world wide total of $362,616,000.

The dog fight between Cars, Ice Age 2 and Happy Feet is quite interesting (well, it is to me LOL)

In the US/Canada it's currently:

1. Cars $244,082,982
2. Ice Age 2 $195,330,621
3. Happy Feet $193,916,000

Basically, Cars is that bit ahead but it's fairly close all round.

Whereas at the international Box Office:

1. Ice Age $454,905,583
2. Cars $217,897,000
3. Happy Feet $168,700,000

Sequel power beats Americana (even from the Pixar behemoth) by a huge thumping amount. Americans are clearly more nuts about penguins than the rest of the world (crf. March of the Penguins) though in comparison to Cars, it's a good number. It's doing very strongly indeed in Australia (obviously).

Adding them together for Worldwide totals:

1. Ice Age 2 $650,236,204
2. Cars $461,979,982
3. Happy Feet $362,616,000

Pretty much the same. It's international box office where the really big money is. Happy Feet is still a hit: 8th in 2006 for US/Canada, 10th for world wide.

And since I'm from the UK, here's the UK only:

1. Ice Age 2 $52,332,021
2. Happy Feet $35,777,149
3. Cars $30,858,370

Note, that Happy Feet has probably performed relatively stronger than average internationally in the UK. Presumably the pretty strong promo campaign plus the complete lack of anything else on at Christmas. Or could it be that Happy Feet just does better with all the original cast voices and the star names? Or Anglophones are just suckers for cute penguins.

Bobby has been released internationally (recently in a lot of countries). It finished with $11,205,901 domestic. Foreign totals currently at $5,741,695. Resulting in a worldwide total of: $16,947,596. For the interested, you see the international totals Here.
