I think Alex is on painkillers... This is his blog entry from today, and is rather incoherent. But I think I have the gist of his message in my poor translation...

My very poor translation...
I am ecribiendo since one of those you plot horrible of the airport, of that that put me cutro euro and they leave you to write some seconds.now mism lame the avion for London. I have twisted me the ankle yesterday, I have it venddo, but I am alive.that badly writes this, God. tomorrow we film the sequences of sex between Elijah and Leonor. I hope everything goes well.

As I said, with the incredible run-ons in his typing today, I think poor Alex must be on painkillers because of his ankle. I had to guess at where to separate the words for the translation, and still can't get it right. Honestly, I didn't even try with some of it. But I do feel confident of the last two sentences. :-)

Thanks for the info. I'm a little surprised they are filming a sex scene. There is one in the book (which I finished a couple of days ago), but it's not integral to the plot and I didn't really think they'd bother putting it in. Although, come to think of it, there might be a reason (beyond making the fans happy). ;-)

Well, it's nothing dramatic really.

SPOILER ALERT!!!! If you want to avoid a minor spoiler, please skip the next part of this. . .

There is a phone call that if I remember correctly wakes them up when they are in bed together, so maybe they are filming that. The book doesn't describe anything about the sex itself. They are there and it's clear what's going to happen and then it skips to when the phone rings hours later. I didn't just check back, so I could be getting this a bit wrong, but the general thing is right, I'm sure.

Hmmm ... interesting! (Don't worry, I have the book & have already started reading it). I wonder if they'll expand on the book version? And I wonder what rating the movie is meant to be when released?

No, you're right. That's exactly how it happens. Though the book does mention (if I recall correctly) that they've shagged themselves into utter exhaustion. :)

Actually, there are a couple of sex scenes, but I agree they are not integral to the plot. Unless Alex is aiming for, perhaps, a heightened sense of suspicion toward certain characters? That's the only reason, other than adherence to the text, that I can think of for including this.

But who am I to second guess the director? ;-)

To draw in a bigger audience, perhaps? With the exception of something massively popular such as LOTR, I would imagine that in the 21st century a movie with sex scenes in it would be a bigger draw than one without.

I won't second guess either. I just thought that was something that might be skipped because they really aren't all that relevant plot-wise. A few hints of course, but I don't think more than that is really needed. I suppose we'll see near the end of the year. :-)

Aside from what you said about suspicion, I think, from reading the blog, they are doing at least the start of first time they have sex (e.g. she asks him why he's still got his trousers on etc. or whatever it was). This is presumably establishing their relationship and kind of automatic if they are doing the initial tennis/squash scene.

Also, one reason that the narrator is not in a particular place at a particular time is because he's decided to spend the day in bed with her instead. I think that one is integral to the plot and they are going to have do at least some establishing of that (although not necessarily a full on sex scene). Although, they could have made drastic changes to the plot and it could all be different.

Like frodos_smile, that detail had slipped my mind too. You're right. That still doesn't mean sex scene per se (they just have to be in the bed afterwards to establish that that's where they've been), but that is an important plot issue, too.
