Elijah in General Hospital?

From WIKIPEDIA:

Wood was recently cast as Morris Durante on daytime soap General Hospital. He has signed a three year contract. His charecter is the younger brother of Carly Corinthos and the love interest of Alison Lansing.

(see at Other Works)

EDIT: Wikipedia has deleted that information.

I mean...I guess it just seems a little out of character for him. You know, he's always talked about how important it is for him to take roles for their artistic merit, etc. Er, no offense to anyone who is in or watches soaps, but...uhm. Well. Anyway.

LOL - wat??

[identity profile] eandme.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
No way. No f*ing way.

"LOL what" is my reaction too hehe.

There's no citation, and his Wikipedia page has some crud on it. At the very bottom of the page someone's tagged "HE IS ALSO GOING TO BE IN THE MOVIE NINE BY TIM BURTON!" Not exactly Wikipedia format.

IMDb has nothing about Elijah doing TV in the near future.

Remember, anyone can edit Wikipedia, and not all errors or vandalism are caught right away. This soap opera thing will probably be scrubbed soon.

Well, I seriously doubt that this is true, but it could make me a sudden fan of General Hospital! lol! I hate daytime soaps.

The thing that makes this really seem untrue is him signing a 3 year contract. I just can't imagine him tying himself down in that way.

Although, he was supposedly connected with a new agency not long ago, and one of their main focuses is on TV work for their clients, so maybe?

Ditto! Sounds like just one more bit of wrong info on his Wikipedia page.

Really? I knew about the new agency, but not that they specialize in TV work. I just can't imagine him doing this in the first place, but to commit for three years....no way!

o_0 The person who put that there also misspelled character. That tends to not add credence to the report. 0_o

Elijah in a soap??? .. No.. i don't believe it!

[identity profile] el-wing.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
And we all know what a bastion of knowledge wikipedia is...

[identity profile] verangel.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
No freakin way. I used to watch this show religiously. There is no way Elijah would do this. It would be career suicide. ??? v

[identity profile] rakshi.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god!! What???

Jesus!! Will I have to start watching General Hospital again???

Holy Moley!!!!

Thanks for sharing this. I really wonder if it's true!

*is dazed*

Hmmmm...

[identity profile] rakshi.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
After my first initial rush of happiness at the thought of seeing him on a DAILY BASIS for three years..even in a soap.. I have to say that I'd be very surprised if this turned out to be true.

I just doesn't seem like the kind of 'quality' he usually aspires to.. you know?

*hugs*

It's not the first of April yet is it????

My thoughts exactly!

The only way I could possibly see Elijah doing anything like this is because he is in major financial difficulties and has no prospect of any film work for the foreseeable future.

[identity profile] frodos-smile.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Ain't. No. Way.

But if it were true, I'd be planning early retirement or taking a night job and staying glued to every episode... And I sooo hate soaps! hehe

[identity profile] frodos-smile.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I just registered and sent a question about this to ABC. If I get an answer, I'll post it, no worries.

[identity profile] annwyn55.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
No way. Can't be. I've never watched a soap in my life, and I don't think I could start - not even for Elijah. :P

[identity profile] tristanpaulus.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I call BS. I can't see Elijah touching General Hospital with a ten foot pole, let alone signing on for three years.

[identity profile] mechtild.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ian McKellen shocked some by doing ten episodes of famous British soap "Coronation Street" (spring of 2005). But three years of a soap? This doesn't sound like something he'd commit himself to.

That's what I love about ole Macca. He refuses to be pigeon-holed, God bless him!

[identity profile] mechtild.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He said it had been a life-ambition. Some other famous UK actors have wanted to get on Coronation Street, too. (Maybe Sir Ian started a trend, or maybe it was already a tradition?) But none of them wanted to be on it for three years, lol!

"Macca"; I don't know that nickname. Do you know what it comes from?

[identity profile] chickenlegs-11.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well it's just nick-name that, in Australia, we give to anyone whose surname starts with Mc or Mac. So in my thoughts I just always find myself calling Ian, "Macca"! Actually I thought they did the same in the UK but maybe it is just an Aussie thing.

We also call McDonald's restaurants, Macca's. In fact I can't remember the last time I heard an Aussie call it by it's proper name!

Anyway, getting back to Ian I also loved the fact that he played a traditional dame role in a pantomime too (another life-long ambition I heard). I would have loved to have seen that!

[identity profile] mechtild.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fascinating! If it's short for Mc and Mac names, does the accent go on the second syllable, as in "Mac-CAH"?

In America they sometimes call MacDonald's "Mac's". I believe I've seen movies in which men call other men whose surname begins with Mac "Mac", too. But not if their name begins with "Mc". This leads me to think a lot of people here say "MacDonald" or "MacBride", etc. with a strong pronunciation of the first syllable, like "MACK-BRIDE". I tend to say it as if it were the same as "Mc" names.

[identity profile] chickenlegs-11.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I think in Australia we tend to pronounce the prefix Mc and Mac the same way, with no real emphasis on the vowell - just a short Mc sound.

As for the Macca nickname, the emphasis is on the first vowell but only slightly. So it's just "MACK-kah" if you know what I mean. :)

Even Paul McCartney is often referred to as "Macca" in the press here.

Just out of curiosity - often if someone is in the mood for McDonald's food they joke and say they feel like a "Mack-Attack". Is that everywhere or just in Australia?

[identity profile] mechtild.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, they say "Mack-attack" here, too. :)

[identity profile] chickenlegs-11.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! It's a good way of describing it!

[identity profile] ladysnaps.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
hahaa.... hehaheeheheee....

*wipes tear*

i can't help but to think this is all bogus. this so-called morris durante (notice the "E") is also the son of deceased character (spelled correctly) john durant (no "E").

three years of tv work? nah. however, this gave me a good laugh. :-D

[identity profile] karin-woywod.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 07:41 am (UTC)(link)

Yeah, sure ! *rolls eyes* April Fool's Day has come early, hasn't it ?

But thanks for spotting this, [livejournal.com profile] jaramajo !

Love,

Yes, as everyone says, Wiki is not reliable. Also the Hollywood Reporter has just announced this - The 52nd San Francisco International Film Festival will hold its third annual Midnight Awards, honoring Elijah Wood and Evan Rachel Wood, on April 25 at the W San Francisco Hotel.

The event, taking the form of a late-night talk show hosted by author Beth Lisick, will include interviews with the two young actors and clips of their work before the presentation of the awards.

The Midnight Awards were created in 2007 to honor a dynamic young actor and actress entering the prime of their careers who have made outstanding contributions to independent and Hollywood cinema and who bring intelligence, talent and depth of character to their roles. Previous honorees are Rose McGowan, Jason Lee, Rosario Dawson and Sam Rockwell.

Elijah Wood, who starred in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, recently lent his voice to Focus' animated film "9." He was last seen in "Oxford Murders" and "Paris, Je T'aime." He is making his first foray into producing, teaming with Anthony Moody and Rob Malkani's Indalo Prods. on an adaptation of Elliott Chaze's legendary noir novel "Black Wings Has My Angel."

I don't think signing for 3 yrs in a soap would fit in with making an "outstanding contribution" to acting. Although he's modest, he's also v committed to interesting, artistic projects - as this report states; a soap wouldn't come in to that category.

*giggles* Thanks to whoever came up with that one, but it's not April 1st yet! :D
