Box Office Update

Paris Je T'aime is still going along nicely enough. Up to 200 theatres now (that's about twice as many as Everything Is Illuminated ever managed). It grossed $501,000 in North America this weekend, bring its total domestic gross up to $2,796,000. PTA is dropping but still healthy at about $2,500. International gross is up to $9,917,069 but it'll definitely get through the $10 million barrier (e.g. it's not out in the UK until 29/6/07).

Bobby is falling down the DVD rental tables: it's taken $15.2 million so far. Happy Feet is a few places above it in the table and has a rental total of $34.40 million (compared to Cars which has about $46 million).

Thanks for the info - I hope to see PJT this week to add my few dollars to the total!! I bet a big difference in the DVD sales between Happy Feet and Cars is guys - guys will buy Cars but not Happy Feet!!

Probably. All those geeks. However, this is specifically rentals and not sales. A lot of people with kids tend to buy DVDs - especially if the kids are little and like to keep re-watching them. That's why the DVD rental figures are so low (in comparison to theatrical gross) for both these films. The DVD cover for Happy Feet looks like it's aimed very young (probably younger than would really enjoy what is quite a dark/scary film in places) whereas most adult renters will always give the latest Pixar film a watch. I think that makes a difference.

However, there is also the time factor: Cars was out way before Happy Feet. The last recorded weekend for Happy Feet, it was still getting something like $0.6 million a weekend so its total will go at least a bit higher.

I think that PJT won't come to my town and maybe not within 100 miles of me, at least not initially. It's not on the upcoming cinema listings yet (other films are) and it's out in 2 weeks. However, Bobby is out on DVD so I've bought that :)

Ah - thanks for clarifying that for me. So far I've been lucky - I sometimes have to drive an hour to see them but I did get to see Green Street Hooligans and EII in the theater.

Some people have been posting about contacting their cinemas and asking them to show it - don't know if that would work for you or not. Thanks again for the info!!
