I think it's Belgian, actually, though I could be wrong. As far as I know, the slang is a purely British insert... ;)
Yes, it would probably make more sense if it's Belgian, as the French aren't really into beer/lager much, are they?

moules frites
& French food & wine ... *is suddenly starving*
